How Can Chiropractic Care help me ?
The Global Burden of Disease, (GBD, 2019) alongside the WHO (2021) have outlined that headaches, neck pain, back pain and depression all contribute towards the top ten causes of overall disease burden. The disabling and painful features of musculoskeletal pain continue to contribute towards the major causes of disability and reason for time being lost due to illness. For instance, headache disorders are also estimated as the most common type of nervous system disorders (IHS, 2021 & WHO, 2021). If you suffer from back pain, neck pain, headaches or any kind of musculoskeletal pain, book in a consultation to see if we can help you.
Depending on the issue, treatments would be either tailored to the region of discomfort or the whole body. Our primary focus is to reduce your pain by improving your posture, mobility and stability. Our goal is to provide you with a long term solution and not just a quick fix by addressing the root cause of your health issues.
What Movement Disorders are Chiropractors unable to restore?
During your consultation, your Chiropractor will conduct a series of Neuro Integrity assessments alongside various Orthopaedic and Neurodynamic tests as part of a thorough health check to establish if they are able to assist you or not, and to make any emergency or non-emergency referrals to other health care providers; so you receive the appropriate care you need.
There are numerous acute and chronic conditions that may extensively impinge movement to a point that Chiropractic care may not be indicated or helpful. Chiropractors are medically trained in recognizing these conditions and are able to refer patients to other health care providers alongside providing a detailed explanation to you so you have a better understanding of your condition and how best to manage your symptoms.
How long would it take for you to “fix” my pain?
This is another common question we get asked a lot, and the simple answer is, “ it all depends on how compliant and dedicated you are in following your Plan of Management (PoM). During your Follow-up sessions, your Chiropractor will share details of your PoM with you. Your Road to Recovery is directly linked on how consistently you adopt this plan into your daily life.
Everything impacts your musculoskeletal health: From the food you choose to consume, to the hours you choose to work & sleep, to how you handle stress, choose to breathe, your exercise routines, engaging in your active rehab consistently & staying hydrated; all are known to impact your recovery.
Are there any risks to chiropractic treatment ?
There are risks associated with all medical interventions. For instance, the possible risks to adverse events following Dry Needle Therapy (DNT) include : -
Serious Adverse Events (AE’s) Pneumothorax, Cardiac Tamponade & damage to organs 0.04% (4 per 10,000). Mild or moderate AE’s include bruising 7.55% (7.5 per 100), bleeding 4.65% (4 per 100), pain during treatment 3.01% (3 per 100), and pain after treatment 2.19% (2 per 100). Uncommon AE’s include aggravation of symptoms 0.88% (88 per 10,000), drowsiness 0.26% (26 per 10,000), headaches 0.14% (14 per 10,000), and nausea 0.13% (13 per 10,000). Rare AE’s include fatigue 0.04% (4 per 10,000), altered emotions 0.04% (4 per 10,000), shaking, itching, claustrophobia and numbness, all 0.01% (1 per 10,000).
“Reference: Brady, S et al. Journal of Manual and Manipulative Therapy 2013 VOL. 000 NO. 000 (2013)”. Drying Needling is therefore safe when compared with the possible serious adverse reactions resulting from taking Aspirin 18.77% (18.77 per 100) & Ibuprofen 13.7% (13.7 per 100).
Benign AE’s to SMT are common in 23%-83% of adults and typically are transient and self-resolve within 24h. These may include some stiffness, headaches, dizziness, tiredness, tingling in the arms following neck treatments or musculoskeletal pain. Children may also experience some of these benign AE’s, including vomiting and excessive crying.
Serious adverse events are rare and are reported to range from 0.00005% (1 per 2 million manipulations) up to 0.13% (13 per 10,000). Examples of serious adverse events (stroke, spinal or neurological complications) are reported to result from pre-existing pathologies. There does not seem to be any greater risk of traumatic injuries in the elderly patients seeking chiropractic care when compared with visiting a medical GP for neuromusculoskeletal problems.

Are they any contraindications to this type of therapy?
There are several absolute and relative contraindications to these types of therapies, these are:

What procedures have you put in place to reduce the above risk factors ?
All patients are carefully screened for vascular pathologies such as stroke, cerebral artery dissection alongside Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES), Cancer, Improper Cognition and spinal stenosis before commencing treatment. We also carry out a thorough examination to determine the nature of your presenting complaint(s) to further reduce any risk factors.
Our practitioners are qualified in providing patient centered care and have satisfied the requirements of the training programs they undertook in order to provide your treatment. If DNT, SMT, cupping, or IASTM is indicated, both verbal and written consent will be obtained during consultation & treatment. All DNT needles are sterile, single use only from sealed blister packs and are only opened during each treatment session.
We practice and are compliant with all current health & safety hygiene protocols as recommended by our local authority. All practitioners will ensure they meet strict clinic hygiene requirements before applying DNT, as well as applying any other treatment(s).
